Star Card Front

This rare card is publicly auctioned on the Heritage Auctions website. As of Saturday morning local time, the highest bid had exceeded $5 million. The auction house expects its final hammer price to reach at least $6.1 million. Chris Ivy, director of sports auctions at the auction house, said in a statement that it is not surprising that the card has been so popular. He explained:

"This double-character card in this auction is the only one that only contains two superstars, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. This makes it the most sought after in the amazing Upper Deck series. Moreover, due to Kobe Bryant's unfortunate death in 2020, this card will always be a unique orphan."

Ivey also revealed to TMZ that the client of this card had received several private purchase offers up to seven figures before the auction. Therefore, he "believes that it can, and is very likely to set a new world record when the auction ends. "The card on the back of the star card is one of the lots of the auction house's "Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction", which will be officially held from August 23 to 24 local time. By then, it will surpass the current record holder of the public auction of the star card - a rare Luca Doncic rookie card, which was sold for $3.12 million in 2022.
