Team newspaper: Former Ligue 1 goalkeeper Valette is suspected of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman and may face 20 years in prison

The Team News reported that goalkeeper Baptiste Valette, who has played for clubs such as Nancy and Sosha, will be tried on December 1 this year on a court for serious rape, and he may face up to 20 years in prison.

The case originated in December 2019, when Valette was playing for French Ligue 2 team Nancy. He was accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman after leaving the nightclub one night.

The core dispute in the case lies in the fact that both parties have different opinions: the woman insisted that she had repeatedly explicitly refused to have sex, while Valette argued that although he admitted that he was drunk at the time, the actions of both parties were "voluntary." After the Court of Appeal's ruling, the case was eventually handed over to the criminal court for trial.
